The museum was inaugurated by the President Sri. Pranab Mukherjee as a token of completion of two years as president. The museum helps visitors to get an inside view of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, its art, architecture and get educated about lives of past presidents. For the first three months, the entry in into the museum is free. After that, from November 1, there will be charge of Rs 25 per head. The age below 12 years will exempt from the entry charges. These charges are meant to enable maintain and improve the services in museum.
The museum is opened for public for three days in a week i.e Friday, Saturday, and Sunday except on official holidays from 9 AM to 4 PM. Visitors can gain access to this museum through the gate no 30 which is on Mother Teresa Crescent Road. The museum is a place for ceremonial coaches, photographs and memorabilia of the President’s Body Guard, paintings of 19th century and sketches and gifts received by successive Presidents from various nations and foreign dignitaries, the simulated battlefield with arms mounted on warriors, furniture designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for the Viceroy’s residence and so on. This museum is a story- telling showcase , which will depicts a lot about Rashtrapati Bhavan using sound-light-video animations.
