Half Day Schools from 15th March 2025 to Primary, UP, High Schools

AP Educational Minister Sri Nara Lokesh announced Half Day Schools from 15th March 2025 from Class 1 to Class 9 per the activies of academic calendar.. The Half Day school starts from 7.45 AM to 12.30 AM as per the proceedings has been released by CSE AP  Rc.No.30027/2/2023-A&I, Dt:13-03-2025. Half Day Schools in AP from 15th March for the Academic Year 2024-25. Due to scorching sun and increasing temperature higher than normal, AP Govt. decides to run school half day only. The timetable, midday meal during half session schools are as follows.

The schools where there are 10th Class/ SSC examination centers, the schools shall be run in the afternoon session from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

The decision has been taken considering the scorching temperature across the state. From 15th March 2025 school functions half day only due to sudden rise in temperature. Students are facing difficulties due to prevailing heat wave.   Keeping in view the health of students, the school runs from 7.45 AM to 11.30 AM. SSC Public Examination will start from 17th March 2025 as per the SSC timetable mentioned earlier.

Various teacher unions and students unions requested Govt. to run half-day school. They now expressed satisfaction over the decision.

Instructions to School HMs , RJDs to Implement Half Day Schools

1. Strictly implement the half-a-day school timings as per the School academic calendar.

2. 2nd Saturday in the month of April should be counted as working day.

3. Adequate drinking water should be provided in all schools with the support of Gram Panchayat & RWS Department wherever and whenever required.

4. Classes shall not be conducted in open areas / under the trees etc., under any circumstances.

5. Keep handy some Oral Re-hydration Solution (ORS) sachets in every school for use of Students, in coordination with the Medical & Health Department for use in case if any child affected by Sun /Heat stroke.

6. Provide buttermilk during Mid-Day Meals in coordination with local community / Voluntary organizations.

7. Mid-Day-Meals should be prepared and supplied to the students at the end of school hours and then send students to their homes.

8. Monitor the above measures closely with the Headmasters, Inspecting Officers and other officials and see that all precautions are taken to avoid any hardship to the Students / Teachers.

Half-day Schooling for Classes I to IX from March 15, 2025

The AP government has resolved to institute half-day schooling for classes I to IX from March 15, 2025, until the conclusion of the academic year on April 23, 2025. This arrangement will be effective from 7:45 am to 12:30 pm across all types of schools within the state, including Government, Zilla Parishad, Municipal, Aided, and Private Recognized unaided schools.

Furthermore, schools serving as examination centers for SSC public examinations will suspend regular classes on examination days (totaling seven days). These schools are obligated to conduct compensatory classes for seven days during the period from March 15, 2025, to April 23, 2025.

School management retains the discretion to schedule compensatory classes on additional public holidays based on local circumstances. These compensatory classes will also adhere to the half-day schedule mentioned earlier.

Therefore, Regional Joint Directors of School Education and District Educational Officers are urged to issue necessary directives to all Headmasters of management schools, including private unaided schools, to implement half-day schooling from March 15, 2025, onwards, as detailed above.

Guidelines for Conducting Half-Day Sessions During Summer 2025

Additionally, they are requested to communicate the following instructions to all Field Officers and Headmasters:

  1. Count the 2nd Saturday in April as a working day.
  2. Ensure provision of adequate drinking water with support from the Gram Panchayat & RWS Department where needed.
  3. Prohibit conducting classes in open areas or under trees.
  4. Maintain a supply of Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) sachets in schools in coordination with the Medical & Health Department, for use in case of students affected by Sun/Heat stroke.
  5. Provide buttermilk during Mid-Day Meals in coordination with the local community/Voluntary organizations.
  6. Serve Mid-Day Meals to students at the end of school hours and ensure they reach home safely.
  7. Supervise the implementation of the above measures closely with the Headmasters, Inspecting Officers, and other officials, ensuring all precautions are taken to prevent any hardship to students and teachers.
  8. These instructions do not alter the schedule previously issued for SA-2 exams for classes 1 to 9.
